Routing OSPF on Cisco Router

Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) is an Interior Gateway Protocol (IGP) standardized by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) and commonly used in large Enterprise networks. OSPF is a link-state routing protocol providing fast convergence and excellent scalability. Like all link-state protocols, OSPF is very efficient in its use of network bandwidth.

Device Requirement :

  1. Router Cisco 2911 (2 Pcs)
  2. Switch Cisco 2960 (2 Pcs)
  3. End User (Laptop or PC Optional).

Routing Table :

Configure Router Site A :

router> enable

router# conf t

router (config)#hostname Site-A (change router name)

Site-A (config)# enable secret rty678VG23# (enable secrert password)

Site-A (config)# int g0/0 (interface connect to g0/0 Router Site-B)

Site-A (config-if)#ip address 10.10.1.1 255.255.255.252 (IP Address g0/0)

Site-A (config-if)#no sh (active status interface)

Site-A (config-if)#exit

Site-A (config)#int g0/1 (interface connect to g0/1 Switch Site-A)

Site-A (config-if)#ip address 172.16.1.1 255.255.255.0 (IP Address g0/1)

Site-A (config-if)#no sh (active interface)

Site-A (config-if)#exit

Configure IP DHCP for Client :

Site-A (config)#ip dhcp pool site-A (allocated ip dhcp client site A)

Site-A (dhcp-config)#network 172.16.1.0 255.255.255.0

Site-A (dhcp-config)#default-router 172.16.1.1

Site-A (config)#ip dhcp excluded-address 172.16.1.1 (client can’t use ip)

Configure OSPF Protocol

Site-A (config)#router ospf 1

Site-A (config-router)#network 10.10.1.0 0.0.0.255 area 0

Site-A (config-router)#network 172.16.1.0 0.0.0.255 area 0

Site-A (config-router)#do wr (save config)

Site-A (config-router)#exit

Configure Router Site B :

router> enable

router# conf t

router (config)#hostname Site-B (change router name)

Site-B (config)# enable secret rty678VG23# (enable secrert password)

Site-B (config)# int g0/0 (interface connect to g0/0 Router Site-A)

Site-B (config-if)#ip address 10.10.1.2 255.255.255.252 (IP Address g0/0)

Site-B (config-if)#no sh (active status interface)

Site-B (config-if)#exit

Site-B (config)#int g0/1 (interface connect to g0/1 Switch Site-B)

Site-B (config-if)#ip address 172.16.2.1 255.255.255.0 (IP Address g0/1)

Site-B (config-if)#no sh (active interface)

Site-B (config-if)#exit

Configure IP DHCP for Client :

Site-B (config)#ip dhcp pool site-A (allocated ip dhcp client site A)

Site-B (dhcp-config)#network 172.16.2.0 255.255.255.0

Site-B (dhcp-config)#default-router 172.16.2.1

Site-B (config)#ip dhcp excluded-address 172.16.2.1 (client can’t use ip)

Configure OSPF Protocol :

Site-B (config)#router ospf 1

Site-B (config-router)#network 10.10.1.0 0.0.0.255 area 0

Site-B (config-router)#network 172.16.2.0 0.0.0.255 area 0

Site-B (config-router)#do wr (save config)

Site-B (config-router)#exit

Verification DHPC Running Well :

Config IP DHCP on Client (Laptop/PC)

User Site A DHCP
User Site B DHCP

Verification OSPF Running Well :

  1. show ip ospf neighbor (on router Site-A check to Router Site-B)

2. show ip ospf neighbor (on router Site-B check to Router Site-A)

3. Ping & Tracert from User Site- A to Site-B return.

4. Send packet from User Site-A to Site-B and return
